The most powerful Level 2 EV charger on the market—the IQ 200– has future-proofed the EVSE industry for years to come because of its revolutionary 80-amp charging capacity, allowing drivers to go further and charge faster than ever before, and enabling businesses to save thousands on EV chargers with downloadable updates that don’t require new equipment.
What is the IQ 200
The IQ 200 units are the fastest Level Two AC charging stations available on the market. These chargers have been designed for the needs of the future EV driver. With a maximum output of 80 amps (when installed in a 100-amp circuit), the IQ 200 charges today’s EVs fast, and has the capacity to charge EVs which haven’t been invented yet.The IQ 200’s 80-amp charger, installed in a 100-amp circuit, is making upgrades a thing of the past. The physical equipment is already capable of offering far more amps than new EVs need. Click To Tweet
How it Works
EV batteries can accept 80% of the available output of a circuit. Therefore, equipment installed on a 40-amp circuit will output 32 amps. Nearly all Level Two chargers sold require a 40-amp circuit so they can charge at 32 amps, which is the current industry standard.
The average EV has a battery capacity of around 36 kWh, and an average onboard power rating of 6.6kW, meaning it takes around 5.5 hours to charge the EV from empty to full, with the average Level Two charger. Simply charging overnight or during a workday has been fine for most EVs in the past. EV technology advances by the day however and cars that can go further, faster, are always on the horizon.
The Tesla Model X, for example, has a usable battery capacity of 100 kWh, while the Tesla Cybertruck TriMotor has a battery capacity of over 200 kWh! With a 7.2 kW charger and a 100 kWh battery capacity, the X takes nearly 14 hours to charge completely, while the Tesla Cybertruck TriMotor would take a whopping 28 hours!
Cars with higher battery capacity are not only charging slowly, they are not getting the power they could be. The average charger can offer up to 7.2 kW of power. The Tesla X can take in up to 11.5 kW, and who knows how powerful the next model might be. Our 19.2kW chargers enable Tesla drivers to get the most of their vehicle, and our EVSE is ready for the next, even more powerful, model.
How Many Upgrades Will It Have?
The IQ 200’s 80-amp charger, installed in a 100-amp circuit, is making upgrades a thing of the past. The physical equipment is already capable of offering far more amps than new EVs need. In fact, the Tesla Model 3 can charge faster than ever, in as little as 3 hours! Changes and advances in EVSE are easily downloadable to the IQ 200, and won’t require an investment in new equipment
Blink Founder and Chief Executive Officer Michael D. Farkas commented, “We’ve been able to rapidly reach this achievement and provide greater access to fast EV charging stations because of the overall industry approval, acceptance, and demand of our IQ 200 charging stations. We look forward to continuing to build on the momentum as we execute our strategic initiatives to increase EV adoption in the United States and worldwide.”
The IQ 200 has been designed for the future EV driver’s needs with a maximum output of 80 amps, which can deliver up to 65 miles of charge in an hour. This industry-leading speed was designed to accommodate increases in battery capacity, making the IQ 200 ready for advances in EV technology. While we don’t know what capacities future EVs might offer, we do know we’ll ready. Charge On.
