New Electric Cars in India- Exciting Launches in 2024

The electric vehicle (EV) market in India is undergoing significant growth, fuelled by increasing awareness of environmental concerns and government initiatives promoting sustainable transportation. As we look towards the future, there is great anticipation for the new electric cars expected in India from 2024 and beyond. These launches signify the growing interest and investment in the electric mobility sector and the potential for a cleaner and greener future.

 

Tata's New Electric Car- Punch.ev

Launch Date: Jan 2024

The first EV launch for 2024 is from the stable of Tata Motors- with the electric version of the subcompact SUV- Tata Punch EV. With this launch, Tata has four Electric Cars in India- Tata Tigor.ev, Tiago.ev, Nexon.ev & Punch.ev.  Some of the specifics of this new electric car is given below:

Battery: 25 kWh (Punch.ev) & 35 kWh (Punch.ev LR)

AC Charging: up to 7.2 kW/h (SOC 10% to 100% from 7.2 kW – 3.6 hr (Punch.ev) 5 hr (Punch.ev LR)

DC Charging: Yes, CCS2 (SOC 10% to 80% from 50 kW- ~ 56 mins)

Maruti Suzuki's First Electric Car- eVX

Expected Launch Date: Late 2024

Among new electric cars being launched in India, the eVX is one Maruti Suzuki has been absent from the EV race with earlier announcements about its first EV to be launched only in 2025. But with the momentum EV adoption is gathering in India, the launch of eVX has been pushed up to late 2024.

Battery: 48 kWh & 60 kWh

Citroen's New Electric Car- eC3 Aircross

Expected Launch Date: Late 2024

Citroen eC3 Aircross will rival the likes of Nexon EV Max, MG ZS EV and Mahindra XUV400 in the Indian market. The image provided here is that of the ICE version of C3 Aircross. The Manufacturer had already launched eC3 model in India in 2o23.

Battery: 44 kWh

AC Charging- up to 7.2 kW/h

DC Charging- up to 100 kW/h

  

Kia's New Electric Car- EV9

Expected Launch Date: TBA- 2024

As confirmed by HT Auto- Kia has pushed forward the launch date of Kia EV9 from 2025 to 2024. Kia EV9 will be the second Kia EV to be launched in India after Kia EV6. The EV9 comes in two models in the International market- Standard (Rear Wheel Drive) and Long Range (All Wheel Drive) models. The model(s) planned for India is yet to be announced.

Battery: 76.1 kWh (Standard Model) 99.8 kWh (Long Range Model)

Skoda's First Electric Car- Enyaq iV

Expected Launch Date: March 2024

Skoda will introduce its first EV for Indian market- Enyaq iV, built on VW Group’s MEB born-electric platform- same platform as VW groups-Volkswagen ID.4 and Audi Q4 e-tron. Skoda Enyaq iV will compete with the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and BMW i4.

Battery: 77 kWh

DC Charging- up to 125 kW/h

 

BYD Seal

Expected Launch Date: Q1 2024

BYD SEAL is claimed to be the first vehicle to implement the Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology, which fully integrates the BYD Blade Battery into the entire vehicle structure and enhances the vehicle's safety. BYD Seal will be the third Electric Vehicle in India from BYD after E6 and Atto.

Battery: 82.5 kWh

AC Charging- 7.2 kW/h

DC Charging- up to 150 kW/h

Hyundai IONIQ 6

Expected Launch Date: Q1 2024

One of the major highlights at Hyundai’s Auto Expo 2023 pavilion was the IONIQ 6 EV sedan. Built on the same platform as Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6, this will be the third electric car from Hyundai after Kona Electric and IONIQ 5 in India.

Battery: 77.4 kWh

AC Charging- up to 11 kW/h

DC Charging- up to 350 kW/h

 

Volkswagen ID.4

Expected Launch Date: May 2024

The Volkswagen ID.4 is an electric-powered SUV that the brand offers in the UK, USA, and European markets. It was showcased by Volkswagen India at its Annual Brand Conference in April 2023 in Cochin. This will be the first EV to be introduced in the Indian market by Volkswagen.

Battery: 77 kWh

DC Charging- up to 125 kW/h

 

BMW i5

Expected Launch Date: May 2024

To the current stable of electric cars- i4, iX and i7, BMW is expected to add i5 in 2024. While in global markets- there are two versions- i5 eDrive 40 and Performance version i5 M60,  it is still unknown whether both the models will be launched in India.

Battery: 81.2 kWh

AC Charging- up to 11 kW/h

DC Charging- up to 205 kW/h

 

Mercedes Benz EQA

Expected Lauch Date: May 2024

Mercedes Benz EQA will be the entry-level electric SUV in India for Mercedes. Based on the existing ICE car GLA, EQA will be the fourth electric car in India along with existing models of EQB, EQE and EQS.

Mahindra XUV.e08

Expected Launch Date: Late 2024

The XUV.e08 will be the first electric vehicle based on the new INGLO platform and has a chassis based on the XUV700. The electric vehicle is expected to come in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options and will be pegged as a competition to the Harrier EV and Safari EV from Tata Motors.

Porsche Macan EV

Expected Launch Date: Mid 2024

After the launch of Porsche Taycan, the German Automobile manufacturing is bringing the EV counterpart of the Porsche Macan to India. Check out the vehicle specifications here.

Tata Harrier.ev

Expected Launch Date: Late 2024

Another EV launch from Tata’s stable Tata Harrier.ev, which is based on the Tata Harrier - 5-seater monocoque SUV design derived from the legendary Land Rover D8 architecture and developed in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover.

Tata Curvv

Expected Launch Date: Late 2024

Tata’s first EV-first launch, Tata Curvv was first showcased at Auto Expo 2023 is expected to hit the markets in 2024. This EV also follows the Generation 2 EV architecture which is used in Tata Harrier.ev
