Who Can Apply for the Workplace Charging Scheme?
The WCS is available to a wide range of UK organisations with a business premises where charge points will be used by employees or fleet vehicles.

Private limited companies and PLCs
Partnerships and LLPs
Sole traders and self-employed individuals with a business premises
Charities and not-for-profit organisations
NHS trusts, local authorities, and other public sector bodies
State-funded schools, academies, colleges, and universities (enhanced rate applies)
Housing associations (for staff use)
Key eligibility conditions
The applicant must be registered in the UK with a business premises address.
Charge points must be for employee or fleet vehicle use, not for general public charging.
The installation must be carried out by an OZEV-approved installer.
A valid WCS grant voucher must be issued by OZEV before installation begins.
What Does the Workplace Charging Scheme Fund?
The WCS grant covers the cost of buying and installing eligible EV charging points at your business premises, including the charge point unit, installation labour, and associated cable works to the distribution board.
The grant does not cover ongoing electricity costs, network management fees, civil engineering groundworks, or charge points intended for public use or customer charging.
How Much Can You Claim?
The standard WCS rate from 1 April 2026 is up to £500 per socket. The maximum is 40 sockets per applicant, giving a maximum of £20,000 per financial year. For state-funded education institutions, the rate rises to £2,000 per socket. See the WCS for Education guide for details.
Multi-site businesses: the 40-socket cap applies per legal entity, not per site. If your business operates from multiple premises under the same company registration, the 40-socket maximum applies across all sites combined.
How to Apply for the WCS

Your installer submits the WCS voucher application to OZEV. You will need to provide basic information about your organisation and premises.
OZEV issues the WCS grant voucher, typically within 2 to 4 weeks. Installation cannot begin until the voucher is issued.
Your installer completes the installation. The grant is deducted from your invoice.
Choosing the Right Charge Point
The charge point must be on the OZEV-approved products list and must be a smart charge point.
