Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) - Standard

Which Grant Is Right for My Business?

I want to provide charging for my employees

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is the primary grant scheme for businesses buying and installing employee charge points. From the 1st of April 2026, it funds up to £500 per socket, with a maximum of 40 sockets,  meaning up to £20,000 towards your total cost of installing. It covers most types of UK businesses and charities.

I manage a commercial property or car park

How to Apply for a Business EV Charger Grant

Applications for the WCS are made through an OZEV-approved installer. Your installer will need your organisation's Companies House registration number or charity registration number as part of the application. The process is:

  1. Choose an OZEV-approved charge point installer (such as Blink Charging - Talk to our experts).

  2. Your installer completes the WCS voucher application on your behalf.

  3. OZEV approves the voucher, this typically takes 2–4 weeks.

  4. Your installer installs the charge points and redeems the voucher, passing the saving directly to you as a reduction in installation costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can sole traders and self-employed people apply for the WCS?

Yes. Sole traders with a registered business address can apply for the Workplace Charging Scheme, provided they have employees or need fleet charging at a dedicated premises.

No minimum. You can apply for as few as one socket. The maximum per applicant is 40 sockets (£20,000).

Each applicant (legal entity) can apply for a maximum of 40 sockets in total, across all their sites. Multiple applications can be submitted to cover different sites, but the 40-socket cap applies across all.

These grant schemes apply to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Residents of the Channel Islands (Jersey and Guernsey) are not covered by OZEV grant schemes and should contact their local authority or the States of Jersey / States of Guernsey for available support.
