Governor Whitmer announces incentives for electric cars and charging stations during State of the State

Miami Beach, FL — January 26, 2022 —  Blink Charging Co. – In her State of the State address, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced a plan to offer statewide rebates for electric passenger vehicles and at-home charging. When combined with federal tax incentives, customers could receive a total discount of $10,000 toward the cost of an electric car and home charger. Clean Fuels Michigan applauds these efforts to encourage greater electric vehicle adoption and looks forward to Michigan’s continued automotive prowess as a bright, prosperous, and sustainable national leader in clean fuels. Home of the auto industry and leader in innovation, Michigan is paving the way for a smooth transition. “Michigan is fast becoming a national leader in promoting electric vehicles, and new state incentives will only fuel our state’s EV transformation,” said Lauren Youngdahl Snyder, Consumers Energy’s vice president of customer experience. “Consumers Energy is committed to powering 1 million EVs with clean energy here in Michigan by 2030 as we close all of our coal-fired power plants.” “We are excited to see Michigan step up as a major player in the clean mobility industry with rebates for charging and for vehicles,” said William Policastro, Vice President at Blink Charging. “These incentives will benefit the health and economic well-being of Michiganders by making electric cars more accessible.” Electric vehicles offer an opportunity to invest in Michigan’s growing clean transportation economy. Just a day before the Governor’s announcement, General Motors announced a $7 billion investment to build a new battery cell manufacturing facility near Lansing, as well as build electric trucks at an existing assembly plant in Orion, creating 4,000 jobs in the state. “The automotive industry is undoubtedly undergoing a major shift towards cleaner vehicles. These announcements show that Michigan is not just along for the ride, rather it's in the driver’s seat,” said Jane McCurry, Executive Director of Clean Fuels Michigan.
