Meet the Versatile EQ 200 EV Charging Station

Posted 07/03/2024

The Blink Charging EQ 200 Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging station is smart, affordable, scalable, and compact. Available in Europe, the EQ 200 is perfect for homes or businesses seeking a charging station with a small footprint. It offers various configurations to meet your specific needs. Here's what you need to know.

Three EQ 200 Versions

The EQ 200 is a versatile charging station available in three versions:

  • Essential

  • Residential

  • Commercial/Professional

It offers different socket variants and an optional cable for added convenience, as many European EV drivers carry their own charging cable for commercial charging.

The EQ 200 is a Level 2 charger that provides an adjustable power output of 7 kilowatts (kW) for single-phase electrical systems and 22kW for three-phase (3-phase) systems.

Connectivity options include:

  • The EQ 200 Essential: Bluetooth

  • The Residential version: Bluetooth, WiFi, and Ethernet

  • The Professional version: Bluetooth, WiFi, Ethernet, and 2G/4G/LTE

American versus European Power

You might wonder, “Aren’t 3-phase EV chargers usually DC fast chargers? Does that mean the EQ 200 is a DC fast charger?”

When Americans travel to Europe, they discover that the European electrical grid differs from the American grid. In the United States, homes and residential buildings use AC single-phase (also known as split-phase) electricity, with higher-powered three-phase transmission reserved for commercial settings with DC power. Consequently, American Level 2 charging stations are designed for 208V or 240V service.

However, the European grid operates differently. Many European homes are equipped with AC 3-phase power at a higher voltage. Blink’s European Level 2 charging stations are versatile, designed to work with single-phase 230V or 3-phase 400V + N.

In summary, Blink’s 19.2kW Series 7 and Series 8, along with Blink Europe’s 22kW EQ 200, are high-powered Level 2 charging stations. They cater to businesses needing a higher-powered Level 2 charger without the high costs associated with installing a DC fast charger.

EQ 200 Specs

The EQ 200 charging unit uses Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) 1.6 or OCPP 2.0, standard in the EV charging industry. It is certified by the Measuring Instruments Directive (MID), ensuring accurate metering measurements.

With wall or optional pedestal mounting options, the EQ 200 fits comfortably in any building or parking lot layout. It offers up to 32 amps of output and, as a universal charger, complies with local regulatory and installation requirements. It operates in temperatures ranging from -30°C (-22°F) to 50°C (122°F), making it suitable for virtually any outdoor environment.

Maintaining the EQ 200 is easy, with instant access for remote support, configuration, maintenance, and control.

Key specs of the EQ 200 include:

  • Rated for 32A.

  • Delivers a maximum of 7kW at 230V or 22kW at 400V+N.

  • Comes with an AC charging socket, with Schuko, Schutter, and AC Type 2 cable options.

  • Wall-mounted, with an optional pedestal available.

V2G Capabilities

The Blink EQ 200 is ISO15118 certified, meaning you can order it with an optional vehicle-to-grid (V2G) communication interface. This feature allows the EQ 200 to transfer power from an EV battery back to the electrical grid, enabling bidirectional charging.

With bidirectional charging, the charger draws power to charge the battery when energy demand is low. When energy demand is high, electrical utilities can use software to reverse the flow of electricity. If a charging station is V2G capable, it can then draw power from the vehicle battery.

This capability is particularly useful when electricity grids are partially powered by renewable energy sources or cannot produce enough energy to meet demand. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, bidirectional charging can provide mobile backup power to buildings or specific loads, complement solar photovoltaic arrays and other distributed energy resources, or supplement diesel generators as backup power.

Applications

The EQ 200 is a versatile charging station, perfect for home charging or for businesses where drivers pay using Blink Charging Cards or the Blink App.

Fleet operators will also appreciate the EQ 200’s sleek and compact design, making it an excellent choice for small footprint Level 2 charging stations.

Conclusion

For the European market, the EQ 200 is a sleek charging station with a small footprint and multiple configurations to suit home, business, or fleet requirements. Although it is not available in North America, we offer many comparable Level 2 and Direct Current Fast Charger options.
