Administered by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), the Residential Landlord Chargepoint Grant is the primary grant for landlords ready to future-proof their portfolio. Why Residential Landlords Are Installing EV Charge Points

Tenant demand is growing

EV ownership is rising fast. By 2030, petrol and diesel car sales will end in the UK. Tenants with electric vehicles increasingly expect EV charging at their home. Properties with dedicated parking spaces and charge points are becoming more attractive to prospective tenants, whether the property offers private off-street parking or access to shared car park facilities.

Future-proof your residential properties

Installing charge points now, while this grant scheme funds up to £500 per socket, means you benefit from funded installation today. Unlike the Workplace Charging Scheme, which covers 75% off the cost of purchase and installation, up to £350 per socket, the Residential Landlord Chargepoint Grant provides a flat £500 per socket with no percentage cap. The scheme is open until 31 March 2027. Act early to secure funding before demand increases.

Eligibility Requirements

Who qualifies?

The grant is open to a wide range of organisations that own or manage residential properties in the UK:

  • Private residential landlords (individual and portfolio landlords)

  • Social housing providers

  • Public sector organisations that manage residential accommodation

  • Residents management companies (RMC) and Right to Manage (RTM) companies managing blocks of flats

  • Note: commercial landlords renting non-residential premises are not eligible for this scheme.

To be eligible you must also:

  • Have at least one valid tenancy agreement in place

  • Ensure the charge point will be installed at the rental property (not your own home)

  • Use an OZEV approved installer to buy and install the charge point

How many sockets can I claim for?

You can claim for up to 200 grant applications per year. Each application covers one socket, funded at up to £500. Landlords with large residential portfolios can receive up to £100,000 in annual grant funding to reduce the cost of installing charge points across their estate.

Can HMO landlords apply?

Yes. Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) are eligible, provided the property is used as domestic rental accommodation. Each socket in an HMO can be covered by a separate grant application.

How to Apply for the Grant

To apply for the grant, your OZEV-approved installer manages the application on your behalf. Here is the step-by-step process:

  1. Contact an OZEV-approved installer such as Blink Charging to arrange a free site assessment and identify the best charge point locations across your residential properties.

  2. Create an account and apply through the OZEV grant portal. Your installer will guide you through this, you will need your property details, tenancy agreements, and, if your business is VAT-registered, your VAT registration number.

  3. Your installer submits the grant voucher application to OZEV on your behalf once all documents are verified.

  4. Once approved, installation proceeds. The grant is offset against your invoice, directly reducing the cost of installing EV charge points at your properties.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install charge points at a property without private parking spaces?

Yes. If the property has shared car parking or a communal area with available parking spaces, charge points can be installed there. If there is no private off-street parking at all, you may want to discuss on-street options with your local council via the On-Street Residential Charging Scheme (ORCS).

Yes. If you manage RTM company structures or a residents management company (RMC) for a block of flats, your organisation can apply for the grant on behalf of the residents. The charge points must serve residential properties within the block. Contact an OZEV-approved installer to confirm eligibility for your specific site.

These grant schemes apply to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Residents of the Channel Islands (Jersey and Guernsey) are not covered by OZEV grant schemes and should contact their local authority or the States of Jersey / States of Guernsey for available support.

You do not need to be VAT-registered to apply for the grant. However, if your landlord business is VAT-registered, you will need to provide your VAT registration number as part of the application process. Your OZEV-approved installer will advise on the exact documentation required.

The Residential Landlord Chargepoint Grant is for landlords installing charge points at residential properties. The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is for businesses, charities, and public sector organisations installing charge points at commercial or workplace premises for staff and fleet vehicles. Commercial landlords with non-residential premises should explore the WCS instead. The two schemes cannot be used for the same installation.
