The Residential Landlord Chargepoint Grant is a government scheme that funds private and social residential landlords to install EV charge points across their rental properties.

Administered by OZEV, the grant provides up to £500 per socket, with up to 200 grant applications per landlord per year, making it one of the most scalable EV charging grant programmes available. Who Qualifies for the Residential Landlord Chargepoint Grant?

Private landlords

Any private landlord renting out residential property in the UK can apply, including individual buy-to-let landlords, portfolio landlords, and accidental landlords, as long as the property is being rented out under a valid tenancy agreement.

Social landlords and housing associations

Registered social landlords (RSLs) and housing associations can apply for the grant for any of their residential properties where tenants have agreed to the installation. The 200 applications per year cap means large housing associations can access up to £100,000 annually.

Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs)

HMO landlords are eligible provided the property is classified as domestic rental accommodation. Each socket in an HMO can be covered by a separate grant application.

Residents management companies and RTM companies

If the rental properties are in a block of flats managed by a residents management company (RMC) or Right to Manage (RTM) company, the management company can apply on behalf of the residents. Resident management companies and those who manage an RTM company should liaise with an OZEV-approved installer to confirm eligibility before submitting.

Who does not qualify?

How Much Can Landlords Claim?

The grant funds up to £500 per socket. With a maximum of 200 applications per year, landlords with large residential portfolios can receive up to £100,000 in annual grant funding. The grant is applied directly against the installation invoice, and your OZEV-approved installer deducts it from the amount you pay.

What Does the Grant Cover?

The cost of the charge point hardware (must be an OZEV-approved model).

Installation labour by an OZEV-approved installer.

Basic electrical works to connect the charge point to the property's supply.

It does not cover ongoing electricity costs, network management fees, or major electrical upgrade works such as a new consumer unit.

Tenant and Property Requirements

A valid tenancy agreement must be in place. The property cannot be vacant at the time of application.

The charge point must be installed at the rental property.

The property must have a suitable location for the charge point, typically a driveway, private parking space, or communal car park.

The charge point must be installed by an OZEV-approved installer using an OZEV-approved model.

Your installer submits the grant voucher application to OZEV, referencing the tenancy details and property address.

OZEV approves the voucher (typically 2 to 4 weeks). Installation cannot proceed until voucher approval is confirmed.
