  • This represents the cost you pay for electricity, determined by your electrical utility company. By default, we utilize state averages to offer you an estimate.

  • The size of the vehicle’s battery determines the EV range and is typically upgradeable at the time of purchasing your EV.

  • The charging station’s supply of electricity, or the vehicle’s on-board charger limits the rate of charge. The calculator considers your EVs maximum charging acceptance rate.

Estimating EV Charging Costs to Drive a Set Distance:

To estimate the cost of charging an EV, calculate the expense for driving a specific distance. Two common measures for EV fuel economy are miles per gallon gasoline equivalent (MPGe) and kilowatt hours per 100 miles. (i.e., how many kilowatt-hours it takes to drive 100 miles) You can find the kilowatt per 100 miles value on the EPA level when purchasing your vehicle or by searching for vehicle models on fueleconomy.gov. Divide this value by 100 to determine the cost of driving 1 mile, then multiply it by the distance you plan to travel and the kilowatt-hour electricity fee.
