What Is a Level 2 Charger?
A Level 2 EV charging station uses a 240-volt power source to deliver electricity to electric vehicles at a much faster rate than a standard household outlet. It typically provides 10 to 60 miles of range per hour of charging, making it ideal for home garages, workplaces, multifamily communities, and public parking areas where vehicles are parked for several hours. Level 2 chargers are compatible with nearly all EVs and offer a smart, cost-effective way to keep vehicles charged during regular daily activities.
Compared to DC fast charging (DCFC), Level 2 stations offer several advantages, especially for routine, long-term charging. While DCFC delivers rapid charging in under an hour, it’s expensive to install and requires heavy-duty infrastructure. Level 2 charging, on the other hand, is much more affordable to deploy and easier to integrate into existing electrical systems.
