What’s new with Blink Series 7 ISO?

What is ISO 15118 Plug & Charge?
Unlike the existing Blink Series 7, the Blink Series 7 ISO is hardware-ready for ISO 15118-2 Plug & Charge. When the market is ready, drivers will be able to plug their EV into the Series 7 ISO and start charging immediately – no additional credit cards or mobile apps needed.
ISO 15118-2 Plug & Charge is a standardized international protocol that enables EV charging stations and EVs to communicate using a secure encryption, decryption, and two-way authentication to protect drivers’ personal information from potentially harmful third-party actors.
Plug & Charge system works by establishing a secure link between the vehicle and the charging station. An EV driver simply has to plug a compatible vehicle into a compatible EV charger. Then the EV and the charging station complete a “handshake” which each exchanges and validates information to authenticate and begin the charging session. EV drivers will not be required to tap a credit card or RFID card to start charging, because the Series 7 ISO charger will recognize the vehicle itself. This makes EV charging even easier.
Future-forward technologies with the Series 7 ISO
More ways to communicate
The Blink Series 7 is capable of data communication via built-in 4G LTE, and the Blink Series 7 ISO adds even more data communication capability with built-in ethernet and WiFi. While many hosts prefer cellular communications, the ethernet and WiFi connectivity offer more options for locations with poor cell signal.
Configurable power
A new derating dial on the Series 7 ISO charger allows hosts to adjust the maximum AC current offered by the charger. Nine dial positions allow the station to be configurable from 12A – 80A. Hosts are no longer required to choose between a 48A and an 80A charger when buying an EV charging station. Instead, hosts can simply buy an EV charging station and have the installer configure its power settings to match their requirements.
Plug options
The Series 7 ISO is available in both single- and dual-port versions. Those charging ports can hold universal J1772 and/or North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors to ensure compatibility with all battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) vehicles, including Tesla.
Easier installation
The Blink Series 7 ISO comes with a new terminal block that supports #2 AWG (American Wire Gauge) input cabling. This new equipment inside the Series 7 ISO makes installation more simple.
The Series 7 ISO’s Compact Design
The Series 7 ISO charger’s reengineered design is modern and sleek with a compact pedestal and cable management system and a silver color finish on the aluminum head unit. It comes with a compact charging head unit, an optional slim pedestal or wall mounting bracket, and an optional cable management system to keep your parking neat and tidy. With 23-foot long charging cables, drivers will have no issue plugging in, regardless of where their charging port is located on their EV. And an easy-to-read LCD screen and the bright status LED indicator lights mean drivers and fleet managers can see charging status anytime, day or night.
Who should install the Series 7 ISO?
The Blink Series 7 ISO is ideal for businesses that want to provide L2 EV charging capabilities to their customers, employees, or residents. With its Plug & Charge capability, future customers or employees will not need to do anything more than plug in their compatible vehicle. With the Blink Network, hosts can also restrict access to approved EV drivers who live or work onsite. These EV drivers would start charging with the Blink mobile app or a Blink RFID card.
